Terms of Service

These terms cover the Masala Mamas website, the village community, events, recommendations, and the newsletter. By using the site or joining the community, you agree to these terms, to the extent permitted by law.
Who we are
Masala Mamas is a San Francisco community for mamas raising little ones with a connection to Indian culture. The website at masalamamas.org is operated from San Francisco, California.

The village
Some pages are public. Fuller event details, the recommendation list, rooms, and other member features are reserved for approved village members.
To access these features, you must verify your phone number and receive membership approval from Masala Mamas. Verifying a phone number confirms access to that number; it does not, by itself, establish membership. The founder reviews membership requests and may approve, decline, pause, or end access to the community.
Keep your one-time verification codes private, and tell us if you believe someone else is using your phone number or account. You may not share your member access with others or use it to give unauthorized people access to private community information.
Membership is intended to support a respectful, trusted community. Approval does not guarantee continued membership or access to any particular feature, event, or recommendation.
How we expect people to show up
The village is for connection. You agree not to:
Harass, threaten, bully, or discriminate against anyone.
Share another person's private information, photos, or contact details without appropriate permission.
Post spam, scams, or recommendations you know are misleading.
Sell, recruit, or promote a business in the community without asking first.
Copy, export, distribute, or misuse member lists or contact members outside the ways the community offers.
Share private community information publicly or with people who are not authorized to access it.
Upload anything you do not have the right to share.
Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or membership status.
Use the website or community to break the law or harm another member.
Member-only information is shared for the benefit of the village and should be treated with care. This includes members' contact details, family information, private discussions, non-public recommendations, and other information shared in member-only areas. Access to a private area does not permit you to disclose the information found there.
We ask every member to respect the privacy of others, although we cannot guarantee that every member will do so.
We may remove content, restrict access, or end membership when someone breaks these terms, misuses community information, or makes the village unsafe. We may also take action when necessary to protect members or comply with the law.
The community includes young children. If a photo of your family is on the site and you want it taken down, email us at hello@masalamamas.org and we will remove it.
Events
Gatherings are community events. Times, places, capacity, and eligibility to attend can change. An RSVP is not a promise of a particular experience, and attendance may be subject to additional instructions from the organizer.
Parents and caregivers remain responsible for supervising their children and assessing whether an event is appropriate for their family. Please consider the venue, activities, and circumstances before attending.
Masala Mamas does not guarantee the conduct, qualifications, services, or safety practices of independent event hosts, attendees, venues, or third-party providers. We encourage members to raise safety concerns with us promptly.
Some gatherings are organized or hosted through WhatsApp, Eventbrite, venues, or other third parties. Those services and organizers may have their own terms, policies, and responsibilities.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any responsibility that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from mamas and are reviewed before they appear. They reflect personal experiences and opinions and are not medical, legal, financial, childcare, or other professional advice.
We do not guarantee the quality, availability, suitability, safety, or reliability of any person, business, product, or service mentioned. A recommendation is not a guarantee of results or an endorsement of every aspect of a provider's services. You are responsible for making your own enquiries before booking, hiring, or buying.
Some recommendations or links may relate to partners in the Masala Mamas partner network. Where Masala Mamas may receive a commission, referral fee, benefit, or other compensation, we will disclose that relationship clearly alongside the relevant recommendation or link.
Some outbound links may contain referral codes or tracking parameters. Following a link may take you to a third-party website, where separate terms and privacy practices apply.
A referral relationship does not guarantee a particular outcome or mean that a service is right for every family.
What you send us
If you submit a recommendation, photo, story, or other content, you retain ownership of it.
You give Masala Mamas permission to review, reproduce, edit for clarity and length, and display that content on the website, in the newsletter, and in community spaces for community-related purposes. This permission is non-exclusive and does not transfer ownership of your content to Masala Mamas.
Only submit material you have the right to share. You must obtain appropriate permission from identifiable people before submitting their photos or personal information for publication. Do not submit identifiable photos of children unless you are their parent or legal guardian, or otherwise have appropriate authorization to share them.
Please tell us if content you submitted needs to be corrected or removed. We will consider removal requests and remove content where appropriate, including family photos upon request, subject to any legal obligations or legitimate operational need to retain information.
You are responsible for the content you submit and must not knowingly submit false, unlawful, misleading, or infringing material.
Newsletter
The monthly newsletter is optional and separate from village membership. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by writing to hello@masalamamas.org.
Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not automatically end your village membership. Likewise, ending membership does not necessarily unsubscribe you from a newsletter you separately chose to receive.
Your information
We use the information you provide, such as your name, phone number, email address, membership request, and submissions, to operate the village, review membership, manage access to member-only features, respond to enquiries, send communications you requested, and publish community content.
Phone verification may involve service providers that process your phone number and related verification information to deliver and validate one-time codes. We may also use service providers to host the website, operate its features, send email, and understand how the website is used.
We do not sell personal information.
You can contact hello@masalamamas.org to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some information may need to be retained where required by law or for legitimate operational, security, or recordkeeping purposes.

Our content
The Masala Mamas name, logo, and the original writing and design of the website belong to Masala Mamas, except where we note otherwise or where third parties own the material.
You may share links to public pages. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or use the website's content, branding, or member-only information to create or promote another product or community without written permission, except where permitted by law.
Members retain ownership of content they submit, subject to the permission described in the section titled "What you send us."
Other sites
Links to Instagram, WhatsApp, Eventbrite, forms, partner websites, and other third-party services are provided for convenience or community purposes.
When you use those services, you are subject to their own terms and privacy practices. Masala Mamas does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, availability, security, or handling of your information.
A link to a third-party service does not guarantee its quality or suitability.
The site as it is
The website and community are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, to the extent permitted by law.
We work to keep the website useful and available, but we do not promise that it will always be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or available at any particular time. Features, content, and access arrangements may change as the community evolves.
To the extent permitted by law, Masala Mamas is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for disputes between members, event hosts, and people or businesses recommended through the community.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, or affects any rights that cannot legally be waived.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made.
Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent. Continued use of the website or community after updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms where permitted by law.
California law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
